The Art of Self-Care

Often, these busy days leave us exhausted and with minds trafficked by too many thoughts. What assignment is due… When is the next exam… What meetings are tomorrow…

Work finds itself to the top of the priority list- dominating sleep and diet.

I’m personally guilty of this.

It seems as though there aren’t enough hours in a day. However, we must and should devote a cut out period of time for self-care.

Physically and mentally- our souls will thank us.

Here are some ways that I have found help calm my forever wound up self!

1.) Pinkies up!

I find tea (or your hot beverage of choice) is just like a hug in a mug!

Warm and soothing- my favorite is peppermint. Peppermint tea is known to relax the body and mind. Great for when you want to sit back, relax, and sip away your stress.

2.) Music to my ears

There is nothing like listening to lyrics and a rhythm that perfectly describe how you feel. Whether it be winding down to some indie or dancing away your troubles to shameless pop- it seems as though music is always the answer.

3.) The Wilderness Must be Explored!

Exercising or even just wandering outside works wonders for unraveling knots of anxiety that tangle up in your mind. Running and hiking are soul-cleansing and easy ways to escape your stressful reality. I’m put in a  trance of self-indulgence by being present for an hour of time dedicated to me.

4.) Importance of Introspection

As hectic as life gets, Time seems to keep whirring by faster and faster –

Blurring lines between past, present, and future.

Emotionless and merciless,

Time passes

Stopping for no one.

Hence why we must take time to reflect on our joys and even our pitfalls. Or even to clear our heads and our hearts of whatever weighs us down.

Meditation is like a mini soul nap. I’m dancing on the line between lucid awareness and a dream-like haze.

Journaling helps to communicate and make my frazzled thoughts and emotions tangible and concrete.
