The cold winter here in Blacksburg is approaching. Walking across the Drill Field is close to miserable at this point and a scarf is a must have to keep warm! Scarves are my favorite clothing accessory because you can style them a million different ways or wear them with a million different outfits. You could wear the same scarf every day of the week and no one would know because it’s styled differently.
My favorite type of scarf, especially in these Blacksburg winters, is the blanket scarf. It is truly like wearing a blanket around your neck!! It is definitely the warmest option in my opinion. I could add a blanket scarf to the list of staple Items I wrote about last time because they are definitely worth the investment. After reading about the chic ways you can style a blanket scarf, I highly suggest going and getting one if you don’t have one, or if you do have one, it wouldn’t hurt to invest in another one.
My favorite way to style it is like an oversized neckerchief in which it comes to a long point.
Step 1: Fold the scarf in half like a triangle and grab the corners
Step 2: Wrap the corners over your shoulders and around your neck and pull tightly until the scarf hits high on your neck
Step 3: Straighten out the body of the scarf at the point
For this look you can either tuck the ends under the body of the scarf, leave them out, or tie them in a knot. It’s all up to personal preference and the possibilities are endless.
Another great way to style a blanket scarf is like a Poncho! Blanket scarves are known for being large and what better way to make the most out of your wardrobe than using a scarf as a poncho.
Step 1: Drape the scarf over your shoulders loosely and straighten out the ends over your front
Step 2: Place an accent belt around your waist to secure the scarf and stretch out the extra fabric over your shoulders and arms
Classic Slip Knot
A classic, more simple way to style the blanket scarf is a slip knot around the neck. Other than the neckerchief style this is probably the warmest way to wear this scarf.
Step 1: Fold the scarf in half, making a loop at the end
Step 2: Wrap it around your neck and pull the ends through the loop, loosening it as you please
Or, for the woman on the go, simply throw one side of the scarf over your shoulder and you are ready to go.
If you are feeling a little fancy and need to spice up your outfit, you can braid the scarf.
Step 1: Do like you would a neckerchief and make it a triangle around your neck
Step 2: Grab the triangle and twist it, opening up a hole
Step 3: Tuck one of the ends into the hole through the top
Step 4: Tuck the other end into the hole from underneath
This is sure to be a style that catches someones eye as they try to figure out the tucks and twists of your scarf!

With Fall comes plaid and with plaid comes blanket scarves and with blanket scarves comes Winter, and with Winter comes all of the best Holidays!
