The Fashion Merchandising and Design Society is hosting their annual fashion show this upcoming Thursday, April 13th, in Squires Commonwealth Ballroom. This year’s show is called “Washed Ashore,” and was cultivated by 22 designers all inspired by the beach theme. Channing Cason and Sarah Minnix are this year’s Fashion Show Coordinators and have spent the past year preparing for the event. Being one of the 34 models, I have had the pleasure of working with these two lovely ladies. Their diligence and dedication to the show is appreciated and has definitely paid off. Channing agreed to answer a few questions about the show to give you some behind the scenes information about Washed Ashore.
“What inspired this year’s theme?”
Channing: “Well, we wanted to do something completely different this year. In the past years the theme has been very dark and edgy so we knew from the start we wanted it to be different. Sarah and I started pinning pictures to Pinterest that we thought were cool/pretty and we started to notice we kept pinning the same thing and it was beachy/boho. We loved it so we chose it!”
“How did you and Sarah get your position?”
Channing: “Every year FMDS (fashion merchandising and design society) holds elections for various positions. 1 position is “Fashion Show Coordinators.” Sarah and ran against others and gave a speech at our last club meeting and then FMDS members voted and we won.”
“What has been the most difficult part of being the Fashion Show Coordinators and what has been your favorite part?”
Channing: “The most difficult would be communicating with over 50 people and working with so many schedules. My favorite part is doing something I’m so passionate about with one of my best friends! I love seeing all the students be inspired and create beautiful designs!”
Thank you for all of your hard work Channing and Sarah! We are all looking forward to a great show!
