The holidays are here, and what does that mean? Holiday outfits! I have to say, this time of year is the best time to step up your dress game, or even break out some of your favorite pieces to wear. I have made a list of five go-to things  girls should have in their closet during this time of year.

  1. A Fur Vest

I am my mother’s daughter and as my mother’s daughter I feel like I was raised to love fur. I think I got my very first fur vest for Christmas maybe three years ago and I have not looked back since. This time of year is the perfect time to break it out because it really completes the outfit. It can completely change the entire look. Sometimes I pair mine with a casual, simple, turtle neck and I immediately look like I am put together and ready for a night out. Adding a fur vest to your outfit will also add a nice texture to your entire look, which is always a good thing. Fur vests are very easy to find, especially since the weather is a little crisper now. Along with fur vests, fur coats are always a yes. I found a fur coat at Tj Maxx for $24 on clearance, so obviously I had to get it and I cannot wait to sport it this holiday season. It’s never a bad idea to add fur to your wardrobe.

  1. A Turtleneck

I have always been pro-turtleneck, and I feel like most people should be. They are such a comfortable and iconic fashion piece. On E! News there is a segment by Morgan Stewart called “Necessary Realness” and if you have a chance to watch it, I highly recommend it. She recently made a video about why she loved turtlenecks and it hit me; they are such a holiday statement. Going to a holiday party? A turtleneck, a skirt with over the knee boots is such a look. I think that every girl should have at least one turtleneck in their closet that is their go-to. I have at least three. Mock necks will also work. I just love when someone wears a turtleneck and pairs it with a chunky statement necklace to really dress up the look. The best part about turtlenecks are that they look very nice with fur vests.

  1. Boots

I feel like boots are self-explanatory to have during this time of year, but not just any pair of boots, a nice pair of boots that really add to the look. Last year, I traveled to Europe and I got my first pair of go-to booties. They are gray with a slight heel and they go with everything. The best part about a good boot is that usually they can go with almost everything and if they’re comfortable, it’s a win-win. They don’t even have to be name-brand or anything; Target sells nice boots at a reasonable price. I’m always in Target hunting for boots which is not good because I don’t need another reason to go in there more than I already do. I just bought a pair of black booties for $15!! I mean $15 for booties that mimic the overpriced designer brand boots? You simply cannot beat that. My advice to you: don’t ever forget about Target’s boot selection. I can assure you it will almost never disappoint. Then pair your new boots with your new turtleneck and fur vest. do you see where I’m going with this?

  1. Statement Jewelry

Make a statement with a necklace, earrings, or bracelet to really add to that holiday outfit. I’m such a fan of statement jewelry as long as it’s not super tacky. My favorite place to get this kind of jewelry is from Francesca’s, mainly because it won’t break the bank. I think they have such a nice selection so there’s always something for everyone. Similar to the idea of the fur vest, a statement necklace can make the outfit go from drab to fab instantly. Sometimes I like to buy just plain shirts so that way I have to pair a nice piece of jewelry with it. It doesn’t always have to be a necklace either, earrings are a perfect accessory too. A nice pair of earrings with some bling to go with your new turtleneck? Always a yes. During this time of year especially, it’s always good to wear some jewelry with bling just to add some sparkle to your outfit. A turtleneck, fur vest, a new pair of boots, and a nice statement necklace is a look I’m definitely here for.

  1. Little Black Dress

I am going to go a little Coco Chanel here and say every girl should most definitely have a little black dress somewhere in their closet. The black dress, though it can be simple, is such an iconic piece. It can so easily be dressed up, especially during the holiday season with some cute red heels, or red boots. You know what goes great with a simple little black dress? A fur vest! Oh, and layer some faux pearls or add some jewelry to really make it a look.  Whether it’s a turtleneck or a black dress, it can so easily be dressed up during this holiday season.

I believe that all girls should have at least one of these items in their closet, or try to sport one at the upcoming office party. This is the most wonderful time of the year, so why not dress the part?
