So, you just joined a sorority…now what?
Let me start off by saying that this is the greatest thing you could have ever done. Since high school, I knew I wanted to be in a sorority. I saw all of the cute Instagram posts, great friendships, listened to funny stories, and looked up to my sisters experience with her sorority sisters and I knew right then that is exactly what I wanted.
Freshman year of college rolled around quick and I was so excited to finally start a new chapter in my life and connect with different people. I met some great friends my first semester and a ton of them decided to go through recruitment. When I signed up, it felt years away but it just so happened to come around even quicker than freshman year. Leaving for winter break, I was filled with weird emotions.
Excitement and nerves were just about the only thing to fill my body when I arrived back at school. I was so eager to start the crazy week ahead and see all of the different chapters Virginia Tech has to offer. I’m not going to sugar coat it, the week in the holding house was not the best. You are stuck in a small house will a ton of other girls, with some yelling, some crying, some laughing. No phone and no talking about the events was the icing on the cake. So many emotions and decisions made the process a little tough, but when it was bid day, I knew I made the right decision. The feeling of opening the little bid day card and seeing Zeta Tau Alpha written on it made me scream with happiness. Running through the doors and feeling such love made it so much better.
So, for all you new girls out there, let me tell you just a few of the most amazing things I love about these women. The people I have met through Zeta are some who I really look up to. I have gotten the pleasure to get to know the most passionate, driven, hardworking ladies. The feeling of genuine friendships and sisterhood is like no other. These girls are the ones who will help me grow as a person and motivate myself to always strive to work hard and be the best version of myself. You may not meet your best friend right away, but you will definitely find “your people” eventually. I have met my amazing big, study buddy, adventure partner, shopping sister, foodie, and best friend from this experience. Although I am only a sophomore, I feel like I have known these girls for years.
Whatever chapter you joined, it is time to realize you are the new faces people will see; it is your turn to continue the legacy, to be yourself and kind to others. Joining a sorority is an unforgettable experience with so many exciting adventures that await you. Wear those letters proudly and love your sisters unconditionally.
