This fall I’ve been trying to stray away from wearing everything black and neutral. I love the colors of this season and thought it was about time to incorporate those traditional fall colors into my wardrobe. One of my all time favorite fall/winter trends is a pop of the color mustard yellow paired with neutral or denim pants. Though mustard doesn’t seem like an appealing color to all, the neutrality in the shade makes it surprisingly easy to style and wear. Yet, the boldness and uniqueness is what draws attention and gave it its popularity.
When I style mustard I either go big or go small. Rarely will I ever wear a full outfit of the color mustard – because all yellow can clash with blonde hair – rather, I try to incorporate it in accessories or a cute shirt. Neutral browns, black, white, and burgundy seem to be the most popular colors that are worn with mustard to keep the attention focused on the unique color. I’ve also seen mustard accented with emerald green in fashion magazines and street style. The emerald green is a step away from the contrasting color, blue, but still makes the yellow pop. Recently, I have loved pairing mustard with animal prints like cheetah and zebra. The fun animal print paired with this funky color seems to compliment each skin tone and body type so well!
I personally tried out this fall trend myself and styled a causal work outfit with a mustard colored oversized sweater and cheetah print booties. To maintain attention on the color of the sweater, I kept the bottoms neutral with a pair of nude trousers. I also would dress this look up with a black belt and clutch to complete the look for a day, or night, out!
