Fashion that Belongs to the Streets

Aesthetic, comfort, and variety. These are three words I would choose to describe the timeless style and my favorite type of fashion: streetwear. Originally starting in the 1970’s, streetwear has evolved and become extremely popular throughout the years, especially with the youth. Influencers like A$AP Rocky, Kanye, Travis Scott, and more, contribute to the style by having their own clothing lines or collaborations with popular brands such as Adidas, Nike, Guess, etc. From the original skate style that streetwear originated from, to high fashion/hypebeast, to grunge, streetwear has a wide variety. But even with this variety, I think there are attributes that are distinct and essential to streetwear.

There is no doubt that graphic tees, button ups, pants, etc. are the best things that came out of streetwear. The creativity that goes into many of them is what keeps them in trend; they can make an outfit look cool with no effort at all and it is safe to say they never disappoint.

Without brands like Supreme, Bathing Ape (Bape), and Balenciaga, that laid the groundwork for hypebeast mentality, streetwear would not have become as high fashion as it is today. Since I’m a broke college student and can’t afford a $1,000 jacket just yet, I stick to the more common brands like Champion, FILA, and Stussy. Although brands are a way to add “steeze” to an outfit, covering yourself in them does not mean you can dress. In my opinion, it is how you style them that can make them stand out more.

Shoes have to be my favorite part of an outfit, especially when it comes to sneakers. My shoe collection only consists of sneakers, and I have no shame. They give comfort and style, what’s not to like? In regards to streetwear, they are the perfect type of shoe because of the hundreds of styles and colors they can come in.
