Classic Blue: Pantone Color of the Year

As another decade comes to a close, another decade begins. A decade of change, insecurity, and a feeling of unknown. In a world of instability surrounding us, we can only wonder what the next ten years will bring.

Classic Blue. A color of trust, faith, peace, and stability. Pantone describes the color of the year as a color that is “instilling calm, confidence, and connection.” They believe that this blue hue “highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”

Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, compared Pantone 19-4052 to the evening sky, vast and infinite. “Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication,” Eiseman says. With every evening sky, we associate an end of a day leading to a new one of new opportunities and possibilities.

You can be sure to expect the new Color of the Year within new fashion trends throughout the next year. Whether you find it in a pair of statement earrings or in the new line at your local boutique, the reliable color will be sure to find its way into your style and closet. The color has already managed to make an appearance on runways and in luxury lines such as Coach, Rag & Bone, Giorgio Armani.

However, Classic Blue will make a strong appearance in more areas than just fashion. Pantone’s Color of the Year will most likely be found flourishing within the beauty industry, your favorite home decor brands, and even your go-to tea brand.

Yeah, that’s right. In honor of Classic Blue, Pantone and beloved luxury tea company, TEALEAVES, collaborated to create a Color of the Year herbal blend. Just by adding hot water to the new blend, you are instantly given a color replicating the 2020 Color of the Year. However, TEALEAVES was not only tasked to create a blend that replicated the hue, but also create a multi-sensory experience of the color through taste and aroma. Considering the emotions and feelings the color represents, the tea features a deep berry and subtle citrus taste with a scent as described as a “contemplation of where sky and sea meet.” The combination of the color, aroma, and taste are suppose to reflect the color’s sense of tranquility and well-being.

With such faith a color brings, one can only hope that 2020 and the next decade that follows is as stable and hopeful as the Color of the Year: Classic Blue.
