No More Bad Hair Days

I’ve been blessed with the gift of curly hair. When I was younger, everyone had straight hair, so I would straighten my hair, but even when I did that, I never really felt like myself. As I got older, I became more and more grateful that I have the hair that I have. I have my Italian genes to thank for that.

Recently, on TikTok, I’ve noticed other curly haired girls sharing their secrets and tips to achieve the shiniest, no frizz, extra curly hair. Of course, I had to try out these TikTok secrets because over the years, I have tried everything to help my hair be its healthiest and prettiest. In this article I will be giving away my secrets for my hair that I swear get me the best results.

I got inspired to do this because recently a lot of people have been asking how I get my curls to look the way that they do, and let me tell you, it was a long road to get to where I am now. I’m going to go in order of my routine and directly link all products at the end of the article, so let’s dive it 

Step 1:

One word: Olaplex. Olaplex is a hair care brand with 8 products that work to help repair, protect, and strengthen hair. 2 summers ago, I had a salon nightmare and DESTROYED my hair. 3 days of bleaching, dyeing, toning, and more bleaching fried my poor curls. I lost most of my curl and didn’t really do anything to help repair them. This past summer, I did everything I possibly could, and it started with Olaplex.

The first step in my routine is using their No. 3 Hair Protector before I shower. It’s their best-selling product and is marked “clean at Sephora.” Good for literally all hair types and safe for color, this is my holy grail product. I use mine every time I wash my hair which is about 3 times a week. PSA: it is NOT gross to not wash your hair every day, especially curly hair, it’s better to wash it less frequently! I apply this bad boy on damp hair and let it sit for about 10-12 minutes while I take a wide-toothed comb through my hair. Shampoo and condition as usual and your hair will thank you later.

Step 2:

Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance shampoo. My key to keeping my hair voluminous is shampooing upside down and massaging it into my scalp for at least 1-2 minutes to get the blood flowing. Again, this product is marked “clean at Sephora” and good for all hair types.

Step 3:

You guessed it, Olaplex No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner. I try to steer clear of my roots to help avoid my hair looking greasy or getting an oil build up, so I work the conditioner more in the bottom of my hair towards my ends. I always flip my hair upside down to comb through it with my fingers because I notice it helps keep it volumized.

Step 4:

Getting away from Olaplex for a second, once I’m out of the shower, I wrap my hair in a towel for about 3 minutes while I do my skincare routine. The first product I use post-shower is the Color WOW Dream Coat for Curly Hair. This stuff brought my curls BACK. I generously spray my hair, making sure to get the underneath.

Step 5:

Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Sculpting Gel. I have been using this gel since I can remember because it’s what my mom uses. It holds my curls with little to no frizz and does not make my hair crunchy at all. I used a nickel-sized amount because a little goes a long way. Once I put the gel in, I comb through with my fingers making sure to continuously scrunch my hair both upside down and right side up.

Step 6:

Back to Olaplex. Olaplex No. 6 Bond Smoother Reparative Styling Crème. This stuff is AWESOME. I love using it after I put the gel in my hair because it helps to bring out my natural curl pattern. I use a dime sized amount and work it more on the bottom of my hair.

Step 7:

Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil. LOVE this stuff to add shine to my hair. Most times I add a few drops to the No. 6, but I will use it by itself. I also love to use it on dry hair to help add shine and eliminate some extra frizz.

Step 8:

I do not blow dry my hair, EVER. I know people that do and swear by it, but I notice it just makes my hair frizzy. If there is one step you incorporate into your hair routine from this article is needs to be this one. PLOP YOUR HAIR!!!! I learned how to plop my hair via TikTok and it has changed my curls for the better. It makes my hair more voluminous and extra curly with literally no frizz. I use an XL long sleeve 100% cotton t-shirt and I noticed that works best for me, but you can also use a microfiber towel.

& that’s it! Those are my step-by-step tips and tricks to always having a good hair day. I hope these are helpful to you, even if you don’t have curly hair the Olaplex products are just amazing in general for helping to repair damaged hair. Honestly, without those products I don’t know if my hair would’ve come back to life after my salon mishap. One last tip I learned is that less is more. I used to overload my hair with a million different products when I got out of the shower but finding what works for me and only using a 3-4 products helps to keep my hair as natural and healthy as possible.
