How To Get Back On Track

As I have arrived back to campus after a month’s worth of break I find myself feeling lazy and very unproductive. With the cold weather, sometimes it feels hard to even get out of bed and be productive. This is something that I know many students struggle with and so I wanted to give out a few pieces of advice that have helped me better myself!

My first advice is two get a good night of sleep. I know everyone says this and it sounds cliche, but it’s very true. During a week full of exams and homework I tend to find myself napping during the day and then staying up late. Now, I try to not nap during the day unless I truly am tired and I always try to play my night out, so that I am able to get at least 8 hours of good sleep throughout the night.

Another advice I have is to make time for yourself. As a freshman living in a dorm, I am constantly surrounded by company and sometimes I feel like my social battery has drained. Of course it’s good to surround yourself with friends, but I find it very important to make time for myself too. One of my favorite things to do is go shopping alone! I find it very relaxing and therapeutic! So at least 1 or 2 times a month I try to head out to Target and do some light retail therapy. With that being said, it’s also important to not drown yourself in homework and spend time with the people you love and care for! Throughout the semester, I found myself consumed in homework and not really making time for a social life.

I also try to write my plans out for the day. I’m not usually a person to you a planner, but something I do that has helped me tremendously is planning my homework out throughout the week. I usually make to-do lists in my notes app and throughout the week I try to finish assignments that are less time consuming, so I have time to do other important assignments too. In college, I found myself procrastinating tremendously, so this has been something that has helped me stay on task.

One of my favorite things to do is to stay off my phone. My entire life basically revolves around my phone and sometimes it has become a distraction. In order to stay off my phone as much as possible I try to distract myself with other activities. In my free time I try to read some of my favorite books. My favorite thing about reading is that you’re able to go into another world for a short period of time. It gives me the ability to not stress or worry about things running through my mind.

Another one of my favorite things to do is have a self care night where I stay in for the night. This gives me the ability to relax and unwind. I usually will put on my favorite masks and perfect my skincare routine. Then I try to find my favorite show on Netflix to binge watch, but my favorite show to watch right now has been Euphoria on HBO.

These are some of the things I try to do to get out of my lazy funk! With the cold weather and seasonal depression it definitely gets hard, but I hope some of my advice can help any other students going through a rough time during these hard times!
