In honor of VT’s upcoming fashion show I’ve decided to write about classic style and what better way to look at classic style than through the iconic Audrey Hepburn. So, if you’re looking for an Audrey Hepburn Halloween costume or just want to know more about sixties style, keep reading.
Audrey Hepburn is an actress known for her roles in Breakfast at Tiffanys and Roman Holiday. Her style is known for being classy and romantic. This is best exemplified through her infamous outfit in Breakfast at Tiffanys. Her ensemble includes a long black dress and matching gloves but the real staples lie in her prominent pearl necklace and matching tiara. Later in the film she adds sunglasses which adds a casual element to her formal fit, the juxtaposition between these pieces creates a “cool girl” vibe.
Notably, Audrey rocks the height of 60s fashion through her silhouettes. She creates an extreme hourglass through broader shoulder tops that taper at the waist; her pants follow similar patterns with a tighter waist and a larger fit through the hips. Hepburn also often incorporates turtle necks and headbands creating a playful look.
Some of my favorite looks from her are when she plays with color. Audrey usually wears black but in many of her films she wears a colorful skirt or pant with a white top. These looks sometimes include neck scarves which are now seen in sixties iconography as well as her polka dot skirts.
