Ever since I was young, my go to dress has always been a little black dress. I truly believe black is always a color that compliments anyone and is a color that you can dress up or dress down. Little black dresses can be styled so many ways and so I wanted to give a take on how I would style it for certain occasions.
The little black dress was first introduced by the one and only Coco Chanel and was prominent during the Great Depression since it embodies simplicity. I’m sure though, when you think of a little black dress your mind immediately goes to Audrey Hepburn with her black dress from the famous film Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
My favorite occasions to style little black dresses are events like date parties or homecoming because there’s so many ways to dress it up or down to your personal liking. I’ve always enjoyed wearing black dresses because the color itself is so timeless and works with any season. Something I’ve always seen girls do is wear a little black dress and have a pop of color with their accessories. One of my favorite ways to style a little black dress is to wear a plain, but flattering black dress paired with bright colored shoes to bring the look together, if you don’t want to look too plain. Although I also feel that a plain black dress with neutral accessories also works very well because you can look simple, but it’s very flattering at the same time.
I think a connotation that most people have is that there are not many ways to style little black dresses in the summer since it’s such a dark color and when you think of summer you usually equate it to bright and fun colors, but I beg to differ. Another idea I love is to wear a mini black dress and a white button up. It’s such a simple, but extremely flattering outfit that’s not too fancy. Since the white button up makes the outfit more casual this gives the liberty for you to wear any type of shoes you want. My favorite shoe to style the dress in the summer would be casual sandals or even nude wedges.
A season I love wearing little black dresses would hands down be fall. Throughout the months of October and November you see thousands of girls dressing in black dresses in so many ways for Holidays like Thanksgiving or Halloween. During the holiday season, I love styling black dresses with long trench coats. This is such an effortless way to style the dress. I’ve seen girls style the dress with long black boots as well which pull the look together perfectly.
I could go on for hours on a million other ways to style a little black dress, but these are some of my favorites! Little black dresses are truly a timeless piece that continues to evolve and change as time goes on. I can’t wait to see how they are styled 5 years from now or even 10 years from now! Black dresses are so versatile and at the end of the day can be paired perfectly with any outfit.
